Can I meet you before we work together?
Absolutely! I offer a free 15 minute consultation for you to meet me and see if you think I'd be a good fit for you. We can do this in person at my downtown Nanaimo office, over the phone, or via video chat online.
What should I expect from the first session?
Much like a first date, the first session is where we get to know each other. And much like a first date, you might feel a little nervous to start with. It's perfectly normal to feel a little apprehensive when trying something new. We'll get to know each other and talk about the goals you'd like to work towards. Counselling is a very personal experience, so we will always go at your pace.
How long will we work together?
The counselling process is as unique and individual as you are, so there really is no definitive timeline for therapy. We go at your pace and address your specific needs in a way that works for you. Some goals can be met in just a few sessions, and other goals take longer to work through. My intention is to support you in building skills and tools that you can apply to your day to day life so that you can be successful in creating the life you want.
How frequent will our sessions be?
Most clients start out with weekly or biweekly sessions and then gradually begin to reduce the frequency as needed. Sometimes you might even feel ready to take a break from regular sessions and just come in as and when you need.
How are sessions delivered?
If you're in the Nanaimo area, you can come see me in person at my downtown Nanaimo office for a traditional therapy session or we can explore what nature has to offer through ecotherapy (see my home page for more information).
Alternatively, we can work together over the phone or online using video chat.
What times are sessions available?
I offer daytime and evening appointments on weekdays and weekends to best accommodate a variety of schedules.
Which payment methods do you accept?
I accept Visa and Mastercard payments, cash or e-transfer.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give 24 hours notice for all appointment changes and cancellations. With less than 24 hours notice, you will be held responsible for the full fee of the session.
Is your office accessible?
Unfortunately there is no elevator in the building and my office is on the third floor. However, I am happy to offer sessions in your home or at a location of your choice if you would still like to do in person sessions in Nanaimo. Alternatively, we can do phone or online sessions.
Are there all-gender washrooms in your building?
There are two self-contained washrooms. While one is labeled 'Men' and the other 'Women', people are free to use whichever washroom they like.
Are you able to accommodate my sensory needs?
Definitely! I will do everything I can to make the environment as comfortable as possible. Either before your first visit or when you first come in we will work together to set up the space so that it isn't overwhelming.
